Alumni share updates, milestones, and moments directly with their fellow alumni
Let alumni share updates, milestones, and moments directly with their fellow alumni - a living activity feed that keeps your community connected day to day, with full admin oversight.

Overview

The Alumni Posts module gives your alumni a simple way to share things with each other. An alum can add a post about anything they want their community to see - a career move, a milestone, a memory, a question, a bit of news - and it reaches the alumni who follow them.

Where Alumni Stories is about curated, longer-form stories that you can approve and showcase publicly, Alumni Posts is the everyday, social side of your community: shorter, more frequent, alumni-to-alumni. Think of Stories as your feature wall and Posts as the conversation happening in the room.

As an admin, you have full visibility and control over every post your alumni add.

Why use Alumni Posts

The healthiest alumni communities aren't the ones where the school does all the talking - they're the ones where alumni talk to each other. Alumni Posts is what makes that happen.

💬 Alumni share directly with each other Any alum can add a post to share something with their fellow alumni - no staff involvement needed.

🔔 Followers stay in the loop When an alum posts, the alumni who follow them are notified in their dashboard activity feed.

👍 Real interaction Alumni can view, like, and comment on posts from an alum's profile page - the back-and-forth that keeps a community alive.

🌱 A community that grows itself The more alumni post and respond, the more reason they have to keep coming back - engagement that doesn't depend on you.

🛡️ Admin oversight, always You can view, preview, edit, delete, or archive any post, and see how each one is performing.

How it works for your alumni

From an alum's point of view, Posts is straightforward and familiar - it works the way any social feed does.

  • Adding a post — an alum adds a post from their profile to share something with their alumni community.
  • Reaching followers — once a post is added, the alumni who follow that person are notified in their dashboard activity feed, so the people who care about that alum's updates see them.
  • Interaction — when someone visits that alum's profile page, they can view, like, and comment on the posts there.

This is what turns a directory of names into a community that actually talks to itself — alumni collaborating, congratulating, reconnecting, and keeping each other in the loop.

Managing posts as an admin

You have full control over the posts your alumni add. For any post, you can see the engagement it's generating and take action where you need to.

What you can see

For each post, you can view the number of likes and comments alongside the other details of the post - so you always have a clear picture of what's landing with your community.

What you can do

You have full control to manage any post your alumni add. For each one you can:

  • View — open the post and see it in full.
  • Preview — see how the post appears to your alumni.
  • Edit — adjust a post where needed.
  • Delete — remove a post from the community.
  • Archive — take a post out of the active feed while keeping it on record.

This oversight means your community stays open and self-driven, while you retain the ability to step in whenever something needs attention.

Alumni Posts vs Alumni Stories

The two modules work well together, and it's worth being clear on the difference:

  • Alumni Posts — short, frequent, social. Alumni share updates with each other; followers are notified; people like and comment. It's the day-to-day conversation of your community, with admin moderation.
  • Alumni Stories — longer, curated, showcased. Alumni submit stories you can approve, feature, and even display publicly on your landing page. It's the storytelling side of your community.

Most schools run both: Posts to keep the community active between the bigger moments, Stories to capture and showcase the moments themselves.

Frequently asked questions

  • Who can add an alumni post? Any alum in your community can add a post to share with their fellow alumni.
  • Who sees a post when it's added? The alumni who follow that person are notified in their dashboard activity feed. Anyone visiting that alum's profile page can view, like, and comment on their posts.
  • Do posts need admin approval before they appear? Posts are part of the alumni-to-alumni community feed. As an admin you have full moderation control after the fact - you can view, edit, delete, or archive any post at any time.
  • Can I see how a post is performing? Yes. You can see the number of likes and comments on each post, along with its other details.
  • What's the difference between deleting and archiving a post? Deleting removes the post from the community. Archiving takes it out of the active feed while keeping it on record, so you can set something aside without permanently removing it.
  • How is this different from Alumni Stories? Posts are the everyday, social side of your community - short updates alumni share with each other. Stories are longer, curated pieces you can feature, and showcase publicly. See the comparison above.
