Customising Your Alumni Site
Your Alumnly site is yours to shape — your branding, your colours, your content, your voice. This guide walks you through everything you can customise, so your alumni community feels unmistakably like your school from the moment they arrive.
There are two places where you'll do your customising, and it helps to know the difference before you start:
- Institution Details — your school's identity and settings: name, logos, brand colours, contact details, how alumni join, and your policies. This is the foundation everything else sits on.
- Landing Page Builder — the public page visitors see before they log in: your banner, welcome message, and the content that showcases your community.
Set up Institution Details first, then build your landing page. Here's each in turn.
Institution Details
Go to Site Settings → Institution Details. This is where you set up who your school is and how your site behaves.
Your school's details
Enter your Institution Name, contact Email, Website, Phone, and - if you have one - your Business / Tax ID (ABN, NZBN, VAT or EIN). Your Alumnly Portal Domain is the web address alumni will use to reach your site.
Location
Add your school's address, city, state, country and postcode. These appear where relevant across your site.
Logos
You'll set two:
- Logo — appears in your site header and footer. Max file size 2.5 MB.
- Profile Logo — the smaller image shown on the dashboard feed and content updates. Use a square image for best results (it's cropped into a circle automatically). Max file size 15 MB.
Colours
Set your brand palette so the site matches your school:
- Highlight Colour — your brightest, feature colour.
- Tint Colour — adjusts the tint across all the greys on the site.
- Dark Colour — keep this a genuinely dark shade.
- Reverse Colour — keep this a light/reverse shade.
Socials
Add your Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube and LinkedIn links. These appear in your site header and footer.
Site-wide Term
This is a lovely touch of personalisation. Alumnly uses the word "Alumni" by default, but you can replace it everywhere on your site with whatever suits your school — Alumnae, Old Collegians, Old Boys, Old Girls, Members, or your own term. Whatever you enter appears exactly as typed (limit 20 characters).
Currency & Language
Choose the currency used for all payments, donations and event registrations across your site, and your default language for menus and system labels.
Membership Settings
Decide how new alumni access your site:
- Free — alumni register and access the site without payment.
- Paid — alumni complete a membership payment before gaining access.
If you choose Paid, connect your Stripe account to accept payments, then set your billing cycle (a one-time fee or a yearly recurring subscription) and your membership fee. Note: once set, the billing cycle can't be changed, but the amount can be updated any time.
Institution Policy
Add your school's own policy, terms, or code of conduct alongside Alumnly's policies. Enter a Title (the name your policy displays under) and the Content (the policy itself, which opens when someone clicks the title). It appears during registration and in your site footer. Leave it blank to keep it hidden.
When you're done, click Save (or Save and Exit).
Landing Page Builder
Go to Site Settings → Landing Page Builder. This is where you build the public page visitors see before signing in. The builder shows your editing controls on the left and a live preview on the right, so you can see changes as you make them. Click Refresh on the preview to update it. Each section below can be switched on or off, so your landing page shows exactly what you want.
Header
Choose your header layout and confirm the logo and social links that appear at the top of the page.
Banner
This is the hero image visitors see first.
- Choose a Type (image or video).
- Add up to 5 images.
- Set your text layout, then your Subtitle, Title and Description — e.g. "Welcome To / [Your School] Alumni Portal / Find friends and colleagues while staying connected."
Floating Action Button
A button that follows visitors down the left of the page. Set its label (e.g. "Join") and, optionally, a link. Leave the link blank and it opens the Sign In pop-up.
Analytics
Show live statistics that highlight your community's activity. Toggle on the metrics you want to display — Alumni Members, Connections Made, News Articles, Photos Shared, Events Hosted, Donations Received and more. Show the numbers you're proud of; leave the rest off.
Alumni Welcome Message
A warm message to greet visitors, with an optional image. Write a heading and a few lines welcoming your community home.
Content Sections
Turn on the sections that showcase your community, each with its own settings:
- Fundraising — feature an active fundraiser.
- Alumni Stories — display your alumni's stories (choose the order they appear).
- Photo Album — show your first album's photos.
- News — display your latest published news.
- Events — show upcoming events.
- Editorial — featured content blocks with images and text (up to two), each with a heading, description, images and an optional button.
- Shop — showcase alumni merchandise.
- Alumni Profile — display a selection of your community's profile photos.
- Social Feed — connect Instagram or Facebook to show recent posts.
Switch on what tells your story best, and leave the rest off. Click Save as you go.
